Assessment and Evaluation Coordinator
Department of Education
Culture and Employment (ECE)
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

Originally from Saskatchewan, I moved to the Northwest Territories in 2002 where I worked as teacher in a small community on the Mackenzie River. In 2011, my family I moved to Yellowknife where I took a position with the Department of Education, Culture and Employment as Assessment and Evaluation Coordinator. My wife and I continue to live in Yellowknife where we are raising our three young children Evan, Anna, and Ryan.

Assessment is an important part of my work because….

As Assessment and Evaluation Coordinator, I work with representatives from the 8 NWT school boards/districts to coordinate Student Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting. This includes all aspects of student assessment, from day-to-day classroom assessment to large-scale systemic assessments.

The current assessment focus of my work is:

Currently the Northwest Territories is undertaking an initiative named Education Renewal and Innovation (ERI) to respond to global trends in education. I have been a contributor to this work in several areas, but have a particular interest in those related to student assessment. Specifically, I am interested in what student assessment practice will look like in relation to a key competencies based curriculum.
